Driving Change

Since 2019-20, we’ve significantly ramped up our sustainability efforts, making it a cornerstone of our CSR. We began by meticulously calculating our carbon footprint and then crafted a robust net-zero strategy. For us, it’s about more than just business; it’s a deep commitment to safeguarding our planet for generations to come. As a leading Scottish business, deeply woven into our communities, we believe it’s our responsibility to lead this crucial change, always looking ahead and adapting for a healthier, more sustainable future for all.

Greener Transport

We’ve got two big electric trucks and have added charging points for staff who drive electric cars. Even our board have gone electric! We plan our delivery routes carefully to be as efficient as possible and combine deliveries to avoid empty trucks. We’ve also got trucks running on HVO, which is a much cleaner fuel than diesel.

Becoming More Sustainable

We’re doing a lot to be more efficient with our resources. We’ve got solar panels on our roof, saving us a ton of energy. Our lights are motion-activated, so they’re only on when someone’s around. We’ve installed a system to collect rainwater for washing vehicles and flushing toilets. We’re trying out a more eco-friendly shrink wrap. We aim to go paperless in our operations by 2025, using QR codes instead of paper delivery notes. We’ve got an A+ energy performance certificate!

Why it matters?

We believe in “Doing the right thing,” and that includes taking decisive action to minimise our environmental impact. This principle drives our initiatives, such as transitioning our diesel fleet to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and investing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure and solar energy solutions.

Why it matters?

We understand that environmental impact reduction is a value shared by our entire workforce. By winning the hearts and minds of our employees, we’ve transformed sustainability into a positive driver of employee engagement.

How do we achieve this?

We’ve got a dedicated “green team” that meets regularly to discuss how we can be more sustainable. We keep everyone in the loop through our weekly newsletter and meetings. We even have “Veggie Tuesday” to encourage healthy eating and show how reducing meat consumption can benefit us and the planet. Plus, we’ve got trained sustainability experts on our team and offer training courses for managers on being more eco-friendly at work and at home.

Our Progress In Numbers

At Filshill, we’re deeply committed to forging a more sustainable future, and we’re tackling this challenge from several angles. We’ve made significant strides in embracing renewable energy. It’s a comprehensive strategy, and we’re proud of the progress we’re making in becoming a more environmentally responsible business.

Onsite Solar Power
We’re harnessing the sun’s energy! 7% of our electricity comes directly from our onsite solar panels.
Gas Consumption
A huge milestone for us! We’ve achieved a 100% reduction in onsite gas consumption.
Electric Lorries
Our fleet is getting greener! We currently operate 2 electric lorries, making our deliveries with zero tailpipe emissions.
CO2 Intensity Ratio
We’re continually reducing our carbon footprint. Our intensity ratio is 41.3 grams of CO2 per case.
Lorry Fuel CO2 Reduction
Driving down emissions! We’ve achieved a 75% reduction in CO2 creation from lorry fuel.
Scope 3 CO2
Our Scope 3 CO2 emissions are currently being benchmarked, an ongoing process to identify further reduction opportunities.

The ultimate goal

Our ultimate goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2035, a commitment that will be a central focus in every aspect of our business. Over the next 5-6 years, we aim to establish ourselves as a leader in sustainable business practices within Scotland. We’re committed to pioneering innovative solutions and setting new benchmarks for environmental responsibility.
